Welcome To A Better Morning

Getting Into The Groove of A Morning Routine

Mornings can sometimes feel chaotic and unpredictable especially if you haven’t planned them out properly–and this preparation should begin the night before.  It’s often said that a great morning begins with a great night routine–and that couldn’t be more true. Rushing out of bed for a quick shower, scrambling to get dressed—and desperately trying to squeeze in a cup of coffee and a bite to eat before heading off to work can turn your mornings into a frantic race against the clock.  Over time, this chaotic, unstructured start to your morning can leave you feeling drained, frustrated, and dreading the day ahead.

Mornings should be a time that you slowly move into your day by first investing in yourself—checking in with your thoughts and emotions while establishing routines that promote wellness, mental clarity, inner peace, and balance. Easing into your day is an excellent way to practice mindfulness, allowing you to become more aware of your overall well-being.

Your mornings set the tone for your entire day. Think of your morning as an introduction—much like opening a book that prepares you for each chapter ahead. Whether that’s the people you’ll meet and come into contact with, the tasks you need to complete throughout the day, or the unplanned moments that pop up along the way–starting your day feeling centered with a solid morning routine will lay the foundation for a successful and productive day ahead.

In this post, we’ll breakdown why a solid morning routine matters, the health benefits it offers, how to structure a routine that aligns with your lifestyle, and key takeaways to help you start your mornings with clarity and purpose.

The Health Benefits of A Morning Routine

Why A Morning Routine Is So Important

The benefits of a morning routine go well beyond just trying to organize your day.  Taking time for yourself first thing in the morning allows you to clear your mind and gain mental clarity–giving you a fresh perspective on the day ahead.  By reflecting on how you want your day to unfold and identifying the tasks you want to accomplish, you set a positive and productive tone for everything that follows.

A well-structured morning routine also prioritizes your physical health–whether it’s hydrating your body first thing in the morning, squeezing in a quick workout, or making time for a nutritional breakfast. These small yet intentional habits help to create a positive flow that transfers into every aspect of your day.

Beyond the physical and mental benefits, a morning routine also creates space for spiritual awareness.  Before doing anything else–aside from brushing my teeth and washing my face, I like to start my day with a moment of solitude. I sit in a comfortable spot and take time to intentionally listen to my thoughts, check-in with how I’m feeling, and reflect on how I want to experience my day.  For me, this morning ritual grounds me by providing mental clarity, a focused and positive mindset, and inner peace–what a great way to start the morning!

My Morning Routine

How I Start My Mornings with Clarity, Stillness, and Reflection

Now that you understand the benefits of a morning routine and how essential it is for your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being, how can you create one that fits you perfectly? I’ve come to truly appreciate my morning moments because they help me set my mental focus and start my day with purpose. It’s the time I look forward to each morning–a dedicated moment just for me.

When I was younger, before having kids and no real responsibilities besides work, my morning routine was anything but perfect, it was actually non-existent. I would roll out of bed at 7:00 AM, even though I had to clock in by 8:00 AM. My mornings were rushed—I’d brush my teeth, take a quick shower, and speed through my skincare routine, which was nothing more than washing my face and applying lotion that left my skin feeling dry after a few hours (no SPF, no makeup, and definitely no extra steps).

Getting dressed felt like a race against the clock, and breakfast was almost always skipped because I hadn’t given myself enough time to eat. I’d rush out the door, hoping traffic wasn’t too bad, but deep down, I knew I was starting my day with the wrong energy–and the rest of the day would surely reflect that.

Weekends weren’t much better. I’d stay up late the night before, then wake up around 10:00 AM—thinking I was getting an early start to my day. Now, sleeping late leaves me feeling sluggish and unmotivated to do anything.

I knew nothing about a morning routine, the health benefits of having one, or how it would make my life feel so much more balanced and productive.  Over the years, now that I’m a little older with plenty of responsibilities, and two children later, I have come to realize just how important stillness and self-reflection can be on your mental and spiritual well-being, especially in the morning.  I have the opportunity to wake up and choose who I want to be and how I want to show up in the world. By starting with a positive and productive mindset, I set the tone for how I choose to navigate each chapter of my day.

That’s why mornings have become my absolute favorite part of the day. There’s just something about getting up before daylight starts beaming through the windows, prioritizing myself before my house wakes up, and seeking spiritual inspiration to guide me through whatever I’m faced with throughout the day.  If I’m being completely honest, it took me a while to set a morning routine that really worked for me–a routine I could be consistent with on most days. I had to experiment, make adjustments, and focus on what felt natural to me rather than following a “perfect” formula or forcing something that didn’t feel right with the alignment of my energy and goals for a positive and productive morning.

Designing Your Perfect Morning Routine

Determine What Works For You

This is the key. Before you build a routine, take a moment to imagine what your ideal morning would look and feel like on most days. How would you spend your first few moments?  Would you ease into your day with quiet reflection for mental clarity-would you jumpstart your energy with a quick workout or head outside for a brisk walk? Or, perhaps you’d take time to  journal your thoughts while checking in with yourself to establish focus and a sense of peace?  By romanticizing your morning routine, you create a space that aligns with your lifestyle and goals. The more your routine reflects what you truly want and how you envision your mornings, the easier it will be to make it a part of your daily life.

Once you’ve designed a morning routine that reflects your lifestyle and goals, the next step is choosing a dedicated time that allows you to complete your morning tasks without feeling rushed.  This step is an important one because your morning routine is directly influenced by your night routine, and the time you go to bed.  As I mentioned earlier, a great morning starts the night before.

If you’re a night owl trying to force yourself into an early wake-up routine, your day will likely start with confusion, leaving you feeling groggy, disoriented, and unsure of where to begin. This creates an automatic unproductive start to your day. Lack of sleep makes it difficult to stay consistent, draining your energy and making it harder to stick to healthy habits.  That’s why it’s important to build a routine that’s manageable and fits naturally into your lifestyle. If it’s not realistic to you, then staying consistent in the long run will be much harder to maintain.

Remember, a good routine doesn’t have to be long or time-consuming.  It’s not about how much time you spend–it’s about creating morning activities that work specifically for you, and only you can determine what that looks like. Create your morning routine with purpose, prepare for it the night before, then wake up and make it happen.

If you need to make adjustments along the way, make them with intention.  Keep the focus on you, your goals, and how you want to show up–for yourself and in the world.

Cheers to you and your journey toward creating your perfect morning routine!
